CD Copying For Beginners
July 2nd, 2009A compact disc, or known in the pop world as a CD, is an optical disc that has the sole function of storing different kinds of digital data. A few years back, its original function was only for music storage. It did not take long, however, for many consumers to notice that it is also very effective in storing other kinds of data like graphics, pictures, text documents and even full-length movies. You can also choose if you want a disc for single use only or one that is rewriteable. A rewriteable disc is one way of cutting costs as well as saving the environment from too much trash.
There are a lot of benefits of using a CD. One is that it is an effective tool for backing up files. Years ago, it was the floppy disk that ruled this area. Unfortunately, since it has a limited space for storing data, it became obsolete. Another reason why it faded into oblivion is the fact that newer computer nowadays don’t install a floppy disk drive. A second advantage of compact discs is that the files stored last longer. This is due to the dependable material used in manufacturing a CD.
Third, compared to other forms of storage, it allows faster to access files, perfect for people who are always on the go. Lastly, it is less expensive, making you save more money in the long run.
Copying files to and from a compact disc is relatively easy. It only requires a short time and the virtue of patience to learn this skill. Read on the following paragraphs on how to go about this task.
The first thing that you should have at hand is writable disc and your personal computer or laptop. Make sure that your computer has a Compact disc Rewritable logo. If it doesn’t, you can purchase one from a computer store or download it from the internet.
Then, insert your disc into the CD drive. Follow this up by looking up for the CD Drive Dialog box. Simply click the folder labeled open CD writable. Afterwards, select all the documents, graphics and folders you want to copy to your CD. Right click the mouse and then go back to the window showing your blank CD. After listing down all the files you need, go to the file menu, click it and write these files to CD. A pop up window will appear and you will see a box claiming that it is the CD writing Wizard. This is where you will name your CD. Automatically, the wizard will start copying the files.
A different pop up window will appear if there is a problem encountered. Usually, this is due to way too many data being copied. You can solve this common woe by deleting unnecessary files. Go back to the CD writing wizard box and repeat all the steps mentioned above. Usually, a successful process would only take a few seconds, depending on the size of your files. Remember, the bigger the file, the longer time it would take to copy. Sometimes, it could even last up to an hour or two. If you see that everything is completed, click on the Finish button and try to eject the CD from the computer.
As you can see, CD copying is so simple that even kids can do it. Have fun copying!

All About Blu-ray Technology
June 26th, 2009With the advent of high definition televisions, people like to make the most of their expensive pieces of technology. The Blu-ray disc makes that possible, since it plays graphics and sounds in stunning, crystal clear HD.
The Blu-ray disc, abbreviated BD, was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association. This conglomerate has members from many different electronics sectors; 180 to be specific. It was formed in the early 2000s and exists today to manage Blu-ray operations.
The great thing about Blu-ray is how much data it can store. This is the most important factor of a medium because it determines vital features like picture quality. Regulary BDs store twenty-five gigabytes.
Twenty five gigabytes is certainly a lot, but this number can be expanded upon greatly. This can be done by adding layers to the disc, so a dual-layer disc could hold 50MB. Currently it only goes up to two layers, but the Blu-ray Disc Association plans on adding more layers in the future.
Such massive storage is only made capable by the type of laser utilized by Blu-ray. As the name suggests, a blue-violet laser is used to record and read data, and because the light has a shorter wavelength, it can cover more distance.
As for the speed of a Blu-ray disc, it plays at 36Mbps at 1x. Since future formats will require more speed, the rate will be increased to as high as 8x. Higher speeds can be reached, but the limiting factor is the hardware currently available.
Blu-ray can take a number of different forms, just like the computer form of a DVD is a CD, roughly. All discs share similarities, which enables some formats to be combined, such as a proposed Blu-ray and DVD disc, which could be played on either type of respective hardware. DVD is bound to become obsolete in the near future, so many people wonder what the point of making such a format would be.
